Following are a few of my favorite links, along with a bit of history as to why I chose these websites. The following websites are carefully chosen, and they are entertaining, informative, enlightening or have some kind of special meaning to me. Hope you enjoy them. I will add to the list periodically. (Last edit, June 5, 2005)
- 50000 Books Tom Chambers is the owner of 50,000 Books and is a personal friend of mine (and his partner, Merideth, is one of my dear friends). Tom has chronicled on his website El Cajon's downtown redevelopment process, the politics and the games played; and in the process, his new/used bookstore was ripped out from under him after 28+ years in business. His story is an interesting read, and he also offers enlightening views of world issues.
- Eckhart Tolle Eckhart Tolle is emerging as one of the most original and inspiring spiritual teachers of our time. He travels and teaches throughout the world. Eckhart is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition, but excludes none. His profound yet simple and practical teachings have helped thousands of people find inner peace and greater fulfillment in their lives. At the core of his teachings lies the transformation of individual and collective human consciousness—a global spiritual awakening. He is the author of The Power of Now, a #1 New York Times best-seller which has been widely recognized as one of the most influential spiritual books of our time.
- The Genographic Project A Landmark Study of the Human Journey. Who was your first ancestor? New DNA studies say that all humans descended from an African ancestor who lived only 60,000 years ago. The National Geographic Society, IBM, geneticist Spencer Wells, and the Waitt Family Foundation have launched the Genographic Project, a five-year effort to understand the human journey—where we came from and how we got to where we live today. This unprecedented effort will map humanity's genetic journey through the ages. Check out the above link for a lot more information about the project. (Note: I have ordered my kit and will post more information when the results arrive—probably around September 2005. I am a genealogist and just couldn't pass this one up!)-- UPDATE: I received the kit and sent my DNA on June 2, 2005. As of July 8, the DNA needed for the project has been isolated. The next step will be the DNA analysis, and then the results will be made available.
